Here it is fall of 2013 already. After a questionable start to the growing season, we had a terrific year here in the sandhills of Nebraska. The first of June, we were still feeding some hay and not a blade of grass in sight. Cattle were leaving the hills for market as it looked like we may be facing a devastating year like 2012. Then God must have decided that we had been tested enough and blessed us with abundant moisture. We had record hay crops and I have never seen the grass as abundant in my 20 years of being a sandhiller.
The goat business is still a learning experience and our goat herd continues to improve every year. Our buck line up is going through the most exciting changes in the history of our goat business. We are adding two exciting bucks to our line up and DGFLY MACS HIGH NOON is being replaced by a son of his, WGC Full Court. I have liked this buck from the beginning and didn't find total agreement from my crew here at home but I think they are starting to line up with me now. We will be introducing our two newest additions about the first of December. I think these additions to our buck battery will put us in the forefront for 4H goat selections in the future. We used WGC Full Court on our nannies that we think will raise our 4H goats for the spring of 2014. Time will tell but I am quite hopeful that he is going to do the job for us.
If you are interested in checking out our cattle and/or goats, just give us a call. With kids involved in so many things at school, it seems that we are gone a lot but we always like to take time to talk about the livestock, goats or cattle.
